Trash & Recycling

Report a missed pickup.

If your trash, recycling, or yard waste wasn't picked up on your scheduled day, let us know. We'll send a truck the next business day — often same-day if you report by noon.

Before you submit — quick check

Was it out by 7 AM?

Bins need to be at the curb by 7 AM on your pickup day. Trucks don't backtrack — if your bin was out late, we can't pick it up retroactively.

Is today after your pickup day?

If today is still your pickup day, give us until 6 PM. Crews often run later in the day. Don't report missed pickup until the next morning.

Was it a holiday week?

Pickup shifts one day later during holiday weeks. Check the holiday schedule to be sure today isn't actually your new pickup day.

The bin was emptied but extra items (bags next to bin, branches, etc.) were left behind.

Bin damaged during pickup

Lid broken, wheels cracked, or other damage you noticed after the truck left.

When was the scheduled pickup?
If you missed your last pickup more than 3 business days ago, please call 311 instead — older reports need a phone call.
Additional details
Optional. If you noticed anything unusual — like the truck stopping but moving on, neighbors also missed, etc.
Photo of the bin optional
A photo of the full bin still at the curb helps verify the missed pickup. Especially useful for "truck skipped my bin" reports.

Frequently asked

Common questions
When will the truck come back? +
For reports submitted before noon, we typically send a truck the same day or next business day. Reports submitted after noon go on the next business day's makeup route. You'll get an email when the makeup pickup is scheduled and another when it's completed. If we can't make it within 2 business days, we'll call you directly.
Why was my bin skipped if my neighbors were collected? +
The most common reasons: (1) bin was overweight or overstuffed and the lid wouldn't close, (2) bin was blocked by a parked car or low-hanging branches, (3) wrong items in the bin (e.g. yard waste in trash). The driver leaves a tag when they skip a bin — check the lid for an orange or yellow sticker explaining why. If there's no sticker and no obvious reason, please report it.
What can't I put in the trash? +
The big ones: paint, batteries, electronics, tires, motor oil, large appliances, construction debris, and anything hazardous. Most of these can go to the household hazardous waste day (free, 4× per year) or the Anne Arundel County landfill. Electronics can be dropped at the Annapolis Recycling Center. See the full "no" list →
How do I get a new or larger bin? +
The standard 65-gallon bin is free. If you need a larger bin (95-gallon, $35/year), a second bin ($75/year), or your bin is damaged from normal wear-and-tear, request a swap online or by calling 311. Damaged bins from collection are replaced free. New construction or first-time residents get a free bin within 5 business days of request.
What if I have a bulk item that won't fit? +
Schedule a bulk pickup appointment at least 48 hours in advance. We collect mattresses, furniture, large appliances, and similar items free of charge — up to 6 items per household per year. Beyond that, fees apply ($25/item). Bulk items left at the curb without an appointment will not be collected and may result in a code enforcement notice.
